The hiring salary is based upon relevant education and experience at or beyond the minimum qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications:
•High School Diploma or GED. 
•Must possess, or ability to obtain within first thirty days of employment, and maintain a valid New Mexico Class “D” driver’s license.
•Must be 18 years of age.
•Successful completion of the pre-employment physical exam prior to commencing work.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience operating a computer in a Microsoft Windows environment.
•Experience interacting with customers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
•Knowledge of refuse handling.
•Knowledge of occupational hazards involved and safety precautions necessary in equipment operation.
•Knowledge of warehouse operations.
•Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and operation.
•Skill in operating tools, equipment such as hand tools, power tools, and chain saw.
•Records maintenance skills.
•Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.
•Skill in customer service and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
•Ability to learn the principles of operation and servicing of small power tools and other equipment, including the adaptations of equipment for special uses.
•Ability to safely operate motor vehicles.
•Ability to provide manual labor including digging and setting gas, water, and electric meters.
•Ability to perform a variety of maintenance and repair assignments.
•Ability to understand oral instruction and apply common sense in carrying out duties.
•Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The general level and nature of this position are described in the headings below.  This is not an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel in this classification. 

•Picks up, collects and dumps refuse.
•Completes assigned work orders with accuracy and proper documentation.
•Assists with maintaining proper material storage at facilities.
•Maintains dust and litter control on roads.
•Assists customers in and around the landfill/transfer station.
•Operates facility entrance scale, screens waste, enters data into scale software system, creates weight and material tickets and directs customers to designated dumping areas.
•Assists with building and maintaining waste containers including welding, painting, and repairing commercial refuse containers and assembling roll carts.
•Assists with various waste collections to include, receiving, palletizing and preparing materials for shipment.
•Monitors and maintains Overlook Convenience Center.
•Assist shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders and stocking in warehouse.
•Reading customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed and/or shipped.
•Cuts, hoes and removes weeds and brush, cultivates soil, maintains lawns, trees, greens and shrubs.
•Makes minor repairs to streets, sidewalks, fences, rock walls, buildings and other structures.
•Loads and unloads materials, equipment and supplies.
•Assists in digging for and setting water, gas and sewer services.
•Operates small power tools, refuse equipment, and light equipment.
•Provides assistance to semiskilled and skilled workers.
•Deliver and pick up orders and goods in a timely and safe manner.
•Drive vehicle to and from destinations, adhering to all traffic laws.
•Load and unload delivery goods and refuse.
•Polices assigned areas as required.
•Observes safety rules to ensure and maintain a safe work environment.
•Maintains and washes all equipments.
•Checks to ensure tools and equipment are in proper working order; reports defects and broken parts found on equipment.
•Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
•Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
•Performs other duties as required.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand and walk up to 8 hours per day; taste or smell; have manual and finger dexterity; stoop, and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to sit.  The employee is occasionally required to crawl, climb heights, reach above shoulder level, crouch, kneel, balance, push/pull, and carry.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in an outdoors setting with a high noise level.  Exposure to natural weather conditions with high exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.   Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, and requires following basic safety precautions.  Evening, holiday, and weekend work may be required.
