Department/Division: Community Services - Recreation Division 
Salary: Salary range is $10.18/hr. to $15.20/hr.

Minimum Qualifications:
•High School Diploma or GED, six months experience in recreation programs, customer service or youth leadership. 
•Must be at least 18 years of age.
•Must possess, or ability to obtain within first thirty days of employment, and maintain a valid New Mexico Class “D” driver’s license. (Temporary positions must possess a valid driver’s license.)
•If working at Golf Course and duties include serving alcohol, must be 21 years of age and be able to obtain and maintain Alcohol Server’s certification within thirty days of employment.
•Must have, or ability to obtain within thirty days of employment, and maintain Community CPR, First Aid and AED Certifications.
•Must successfully complete a thorough background investigation.
•Successful completion of the pre-employment physical exam prior to commencing work.

Additional Qualifications for Senior Recreation Leader:
•Associate’s Degree in Recreation, Education or related field. Experience may be substituted for education on a 1:1 ratio.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Ability to work an eight (8) hour shift Monday through Friday and occasional evenings.
•Ability to work May through August.
•Experience working with elementary age children.
•Experience working with children in camp settings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Knowledge of recreational principles and objectives.
•Knowledge of supplies, equipment and/or services ordering and inventory control.
•Knowledge of laws, regulations, methods, and techniques in area of specialty.
•Knowledge of occupational hazards, safe working practices, and safety precautions.
•Knowledge of potential sports injuries and capability to handle accidents.
•Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
•Skill and competency in relevant field of outdoor and/or recreational expertise.
•Effective communication and basic instructional skills.
•Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
•Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.
•Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
•Ability to manage and coordinate recreational, competitive or special programs/events.
•Ability to operate and maintain recreational equipment and facilities in area of specialty.
•Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures, as well as other policies and procedures.
•Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
•Ability to remain calm under pressure and handles emergency situations well. 
•Ability to plan, organize, implement and promote programs and events.
•Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
•Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities for Senior Recreation Leader:
•Database management skills.
•Ability to facilitate recreational classes.
•Ability to lead work groups and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
•Plans, organizes, and oversees the implementation of all facets of specified recreational activities, ensuring compliance with operational and policy requirements, and with appropriate federal, state, and local regulations, guidelines, and standards.
•Coordinates, schedules, and monitors the operation and maintenance of recreational facilities and/or equipment utilized in program activities; implements risk management policies and procedures.
•Guides, coordinates, and assists customers engaged in recreational activities regarding program policies and provisions, activity procedures and techniques, and facilities and equipment usage.
•Prepares and disseminates educational and informational materials relevant to specified program activities.
•Answers telephone calls and provides information, takes and relays accurate messages, greets visitors with courtesy and respect.
•Ensure facilities are clean, safe and sanitary.
•Practices excellent customer service skills at all times, addressing customer needs courteously and promptly.
•Plan a logical sequence of activities to fit the abilities and interests of participants. 
•Opens and closes snack bar; prepares and oversees the preparation of food and beverages, operates cash register, assures concessions area is clean and orderly; orders food and beverages for snack bar.
•Participates in scheduled play, sales of equipment, inventory control and ordering of equipment, food and beverages, cart rentals, collection of fees and marking of course and oversight of concessions.
•Assists with maintaining records of program receipts and expenditures for assigned program.
•Assists with handling program admission and registration, facility, equipment rental, restocking, inventory and concessions sales.
•Attends and participates in in-service training as necessary.
•Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
•Performs other duties as required.
 
Additional Essential Duties & Responsibilities for Senior Recreation Leader:
•Trains and functions as lead for recreation employees engaged in program activities.
•Maintains inventories of relevant supplies, materials and equipment; identifies and assesses inventory requirements, and makes and/or recommends purchases.
•Coordinates scheduling of program activities, and makes decisions regarding postponements, cancellations, and/or other changes.
•Collects and analyzes data and statistical information pertaining to program activities, and prepare periodic and ad hoc reports.
•Serves as a liaison between employees, other organizations within the community, and community members in relation to programs and associated activities; facilitates seminars, meetings, special projects and workshops.
•May open and close facility.
•Maintains and reviews staff schedules and time sheets.
•Establishes and performs specific equipment upkeep and repair.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to walk and stand; have manual and finger dexterity; stoop, and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to climb stairs.  The employee is occasionally required to crawl, reach above shoulder level, crouch, kneel, balance, push/pull, and carry.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level and in outside environments with moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.   Work environment involves exposure to hazards or physical risks, and requires following basic safety precautions.  Work may be stressful at times. Work may be seasonal based on program. Evening, holiday and weekend work may be required on short notice.  Travel will be required.
