Background

The goals were adopted in 2005 to move the County forward in achieving the community’s adopted Vision statement, which is part of the County's Comprehensive Plan. The Council meets with County Staff annually to review progress and amend or update the objectives as needed. The objectives are contained in a document called the Management Action Plans (MAPs) and Council sets the objectives through formal motions and a vote. The goals and review sessions with the Council give the Staff valuable guidance in managing workload, budget and priorities throughout the year.

The Staff develops Planned Activities to meet each objective flowed down to them by the Council, with a description of what needs to be accomplished, and a target timeframe and fiscal impact assessment. The Staff identifies a "champion" to monitor work and progress being made on each of the six goals. Champions are selected from the County's senior management team, and they work with other team members on the activities. They document progress being made, and then brief the Council and public in formal update sessions. At that time, the Council can decide whether to amend, edit, delete or add any objectives, or discuss other Planned Activities that they would like to assign to the Staff.
