The Environmental Services Division provides solid waste and recycling services to Los Alamos County residents, and coordinates the newly formed Environmental Sustainability Initiative. The name of this division was changed from Solid Waste to Environmental Services in June 2008 to mirror the division’s new responsibility of spearheading the counties sustainability initiative. In addition, the Environmental Sustainability Board was formed to provide public input on the County's sustainability efforts.
The Division is housed in the Los Alamos County Eco Station, a LEED certified green building that opened in March 2009. The Eco Station is located at the old landfill and consists of the solid waste transfer station and administration building.
Philo Shelton, the County's Public Works Director, is currently managing the Environmental Services Division with the support of Bryan Aragon, Engineering Project Manager and Leroy Pacheco, Acting Superintendent; they may be reached at 505-662-8163.
