In 2000 a group known as the Downtown Future Committee raised private funds to hire the nationally known consulting firm of Mouile & Polyzoides to produce a plan for Los Alamos’s traditional downtown known as the Downtown Master Plan. The plan established a new vision for the downtown as a vibrant mixed-use and pedestrian-friendly center of activity. In 2002 the County Council modified the plan somewhat and incorporated it into the County’s Comprehensive Plan. Zoning and design changes recommended by the plan were later incorporated into the County’s development code 2004 and 2005.
