Mission Statement

Strive for continuous improvement in the promotion of safety and the quality of the Parks infrastructure through reliable and consistent maintenance, design, development, and enhancement of the facilities and aesthetics of parks, public grounds, and trails and open space of Los Alamos County.

Parks Division Services

The Parks Division maintains 29 parks, 20 playgrounds covering 600 acres, 4,000 acres of open space and 48 miles trails.  Other public grounds of Los Alamos County under the responsibilities of the Division are Guaje Pines Cemetery, Camp May, landscaped traffic medians and streetscapes, North Mesa Stables and Rodeo grounds, RV storage and community garden plots and 14 additional public properties.

Among these duties are turf management, mowing and trimming, tree and shrub pruning; maintenance of irrigation systems, playgrounds, athletic fields concession stands, tennis and basketball courts; trash collection, interments, manure removal and snow removal.

In addition to the Parks Division’s maintenance roles, the Division staff plans, designs and develops/installs new park facilities, renovations, overhauls and repairs. The Division is involved with an ongoing, intensive landscaping and tree-planting program throughout the parks system and public buildings.

Richard McIntyre

Title: Parks Division Manager

Dick has served as Parks Division Manager for six years.  He is a graduate of Rutgers University with a BS Landscape Architecture and he is a Registered Landscape Architect in the State of New Mexico.  Mr. McIntyre has over 35 years experience in the green industry of which 21 are in public service and parks discipline.

Jeff Humpton

Title: Parks Superintendent

Jeff has been with the Parks Division for 14 years. He began his service as a Parks Maintenance Specialist and is skilled in landscaping, general maintenance, and construction. Jeff is a certified irrigation auditor and designer. His experience makes him a valued member of the Parks staff. 

Elaine Martinez

Title: Senior Office Specialist

Elaine is the Division’s Senior Office Specialist and has been with Los Alamos County for 20 plus years.  She manages the daily clerical operations of the office, records payroll, tree and plant donations, memorial donations and the leasing of Stables/Rodeo grounds, RV lots and the garden plots.

Roxie Mascarenas

Title: Office Specialist
Roxie Mascarenas is the Office Specialist at the Parks Division.  She has been with the County since 2001.  She splits her time between the Parks Division and Fuller Lodge.  She is responsible for scheduling special events and rentals of indoor County facilities. Roxie also assists with the general office operations at Parks.

Craig Martin

Title: Open Space Specialist

Craig serves as the Open Space Specialist overseeing the County’s open space and trail systems and the Fuel Mitigation Project for the protection of the county from forest fires. Craig is a graduate of the University of Delaware and has authored 18 books covering the history and recreational opportunities of northern New Mexico. He has been with the Parks Division for six years.

Office Location at 101 Camino Entrada, Building 5
The office is located at the central county facilities at Pajarito Cliffs just east of the Los Alamos Airport. From downtown Los Alamos, turn left onto Camino Entrada, which is an entrance shared with the Holiday Inn Express. Head down the steep and winding road and follow the signs for public parking. Pass building one on the right, make a sharp right turn around a parking area, then a sharp left between Buildings 4 and 5. Continue to the smaller parking area at the east end of Building 5. Parks is entered through the door on the east side of the building.
