Strive for continuous improvement in the promotion of safety and the quality of the Parks infrastructure through reliable and consistent maintenance, design, development, and enhancement of the facilities and aesthetics of parks, public grounds, and trails and open space of Los Alamos County.
Parks Division Services
The Parks Division maintains 29 parks, 20 playgrounds covering 600 acres, 4,000 acres of open space and 48 miles trails. Other public grounds of Los Alamos County under the responsibilities of the Division are Guaje Pines Cemetery, Camp May, landscaped traffic medians and streetscapes, North Mesa Stables and Rodeo grounds, RV storage and community garden plots and 14 additional public properties.
Among these duties are turf management, mowing and trimming, tree and shrub pruning; maintenance of irrigation systems, playgrounds, athletic fields concession stands, tennis and basketball courts; trash collection, interments, manure removal and snow removal.
In addition to the Parks Division’s maintenance roles, the Division staff plans, designs and develops/installs new park facilities, renovations, overhauls and repairs. The Division is involved with an ongoing, intensive landscaping and tree-planting program throughout the parks system and public buildings.
